The floating house party for grown-ups that visits tiny Greek isles

On a half-board cruise, most evenings are spent ashore dining on homegrown staples in atmospheric tavernas flowing with local flavour

and sleepy settlements, giving a more authentic Hellenic flavour, where locals call out friendly greetings and we browse locally-made honey and olive oil in tiny, rustic shops.

Kimolos is another sleepy escape with an authentic ambience, where we spend the evening exploring the maze of streets in Psathi village before stumbling across a ruined VenetianAs I meander along a street brimming with cafés and shops, I spot some shipmates who’ve taken up residence at pavement tables by a bar. I stop by too and it’s not long before just about everyone from our ship joins the party, with flowing conversations reminiscent of the convivial ambience on Elysium.

I quickly become hooked on the regular routine of morning on-deck Pilates in sea breezes followed by leisurely breakfasts of fresh fruit and Greek yoghurt followed by an omelette. Lunchtime buffets are a mix of grilled meats and salads.Each day brings the promise of somewhere new, with includes excursions and beach stops where we motor ashore on the ship’s Zodiac boats for a relaxing few hours of sunbathing and messing around with water toys.

Our arrival at this unspoilt outpost comes hot on the heels of former US president Barack Obama and movie star Tom Hanks, who were spotted dining together en famille at a waterfront restaurant just days before.
