In an interview, she revealed that while the book served as a blueprint, the writers' room also drew from their own experiences on friend trips. Brunstetter admitted she watched The Real Housewives of Atlanta for inspiration, aiming to capture the dynamic of a Bravo reality show but with scripted depth. The casting of Judy Greer as the villain Electra was a deliberate choice, leaning into Greer's history of playing best friends.
'Give the people what they want,' Brunstetter said, noting that Garner and Greer are old friends, making the on-screen tension even more compelling. The show also explores intergenerational dynamics, as Caroline's presence forces the older women to confront their own youth and regrets. Brunstetter hopes that after the credits roll, Gigi finds love with a suitable partner, but more importantly, that she realizes she is no longer a loner.
