Godzilla's first MonsterVerse opponent may appear.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The first monster Godzilla did battle with in the MonsterVerse timeline is now in an excellent position to make its live-action debut in Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters. Rather than pick up where the MonsterVerse left off at the end of Godzilla vs. Kong, Apple TV+’s Godzilla show is heading back to the past. Photos and a synopsis for the show promise a story that will explore two different periods in Godzilla’s history.
Shinomura’s Powers & Abilities Explained The MonsterVerse's return to the 1950s means that a hidden creature from Godzilla’s MonsterVerse history is relevant to Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters. In Godzilla: Awakening, a MonsterVerse tie-in comic released ahead of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla was seen fighting creatures known as the Shinomura in 2014. In the comic, they were introduced as winged, insect monsters.
Godzilla’s Fight With The Shinomura In 1954 Explained Godzilla: Awakening revealed that Godzilla and the Shinomura engaged in a heated showdown in 1954, right around the time Godzilla had become active. In the 2014 reboot, Dr. Serizawa explained that after Godzilla was awakened by a nuclear submarine, the military used a nuclear bomb – now known as the Castle Bravo test – to kill him.
Shinomura wasn’t mentioned in the 2014 movie, yet he occupies an important place in MonsterVerse canon regardless. While it’s true that Godzilla also had ancient rivalries with Kong, Ghidorah, and the MUTOs, it should be noted that his fight with Shinomura, in a sense, was the true beginning of the MonsterVerse timeline. Godzilla’s awakening in the 1950s served as the starting point, making the Shinomura his first opponent in the modern era.
