The UK woke up yesterday to the news that the Government has decided to designate Wagner Group – the nefarious mercenary group that utilises terrorism to advance Russian foreign policy –
We petitioned then Prime Minister Boris Johnson on 4 May 2022 to designate Wagner as terrorists. Our letters remain unanswered. Thanks to continued civil society pressure from the programme and, more importantly,, the omission was highlighted and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s government took action. Parliament played its role too through the Foreign Affairs Committee providing the programme with a platform to make its case.
