The MLF is b-a-c-k.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT This year’s Hellfire Gala witnessed the fall of Krakoa, and it has led to the rebirth of a classic team of X-Men villains: the Mutant Liberation Front. During the Krakoan era, many evil mutants laid down their arms, but the recent assault upon the island-nation by Orchis has changed that. In Uncanny Avengers #1, readers learn that in the wake of Krakoa’s fall, a classic team of antagonistic mutants has returned.
Uncanny Avengers #1 – written by Gerry Duggan, drawn by Javier Garron, colored by Morry Hollowell and lettered by Travis Lanham – features Captain America inagurating his reformed Avengers Unity Squad, having recruited Psylocke, Deadpool, Quiksilver and other mutants to the new team. They immediately face several urgent threats, including the emergence of a new, deadly Captain Krakoa, who they discover is leading the New Mutant Liberation Front.
The Mutant Liberation Front Is Bad News In Uncanny Avengers #1, the team meets covertly in the sewers to discuss strategy. Quicksilver informs Captain America he has located their targets. Arriving on the scene, the Unity Squad finds Blob has allied himself with Captain Krakoa. Rogue asks how he could do that, to which Blob replies, calling Captain America a “star-spangled fascist.” The Blob accurately states that America supports Orchis, and that Rogue never cared about Krakoa.
Mutant Terrorism Will Continue to Rise First appearing in 1989’s New Mutants #86, the original Mutant Liberation Front was formed by Stryfe, and was sent to rescue imprisoned mutants. Over the years, they tangled with the X-Men and other heroic mutant teams. The MLF temporarily came to an end during the Krakoan era. The island nation was a haven for mutants, and they began building a utopian society.
The attack on Krakoa by the Orchis was a cowardly act, reinforcing for mutants that they would never be safe, despite their best efforts. The mutants left behind in the wake of the attack are desperate and on the run, leading to a resurgence in mutant terrorism – and the resurgence of the Mutant Liberation Front. As Orchis continues their assaults on mutants, groups like the New MLF will continue to emerge.
