Giggles are common during embarrassing or anxious moments, and when our laughter might cause us problems.that arises in two related, but slightly different, circumstances. The first kind is the laughter most emblematic of “nervous” or “” laughter, the sort you might engage in as their roller coaster begins its way up the long initial incline of what you expect to be a very wild ride.
This isn’t your typical “funny ha-ha” moment. And yet, for some reason, laughter forces its way to the surface, almost against our will.to laugh. Imagine you are watching the slow unfolding of a practical joke being played on your boss, but also not wanting to “give it away.” Or you're reacting to an exceptionally juvenile or “corny” joke and, as much as you might not want to give the jokester the satisfaction, you are for some unknown reason inspired to laugh more intensely than you feel is justified. Or you hear one friend give a friendly insult to another friend and you are unable to completely refrain from laughing. What is happening? Why do we sometimes laugh but, at the same time, feel as though we shouldn’t—at least not as much as we are? What does nervous laughter have in common with the other examples?, the rather enigmatic vocalization known as laughter isn’t simply a reflexive response to amusing stimuli. It actually sends an important message. When we have done (or are about to do) something that may reflect poorly on us, or have noticed others experiencing similar misfortune, we use laughter as a means of affirming that both we and they have shortcomings. By shortcomings, I mean those physical traits, ideas, or behaviors that hinder one’s ability to reach one’s objective but do not preclude it altogether.
