For 23 years Alan Keegan has had the best seat in Old Trafford. A lifelong Manchester United fan, Keegan is a familiar voice to many fans thanks to his job as the stadium announcer.
“It’s been an amazing journey. I never thought when I got the job I’d still be there 23 years later.” He told the Manchester Evening News. The match was a second leg after the two imperious teams played out a stale mate at the iconic Camp Nou. This set up a tense second leg where a domestically dominant United had to null the genius of Messi, Iniesta, Xavi and Eto’o to book a place in the Champions League final in Moscow which they went on to win that year.
“It was scored after 15 minutes and it was the longest 75 minutes of my life. That night Messi was unbelievable. The most important part of Alan’s job is announcing the line ups to an eager 75,000 football fans.
