Maroons leader Daly Cherry-Evans has denied the ongoing contract saga of Ben Hunt has been a distraction on the Queensland camp, declaring the veteran was unfazed by the increasing speculation regarding his future.
Hunt had informed the St George-Illawarra Dragons he was seeking an early release from his contract, which expires at the end of the 2025, while the likes of the Gold Coast Titans have been reported as landing spots for the Queensland hooker.
“Oh yeah, you should see, he’s all over the shop, he’s crying,” Cherry-Evans sarcastically replied when asked if Hunt had been distracted throughout training. “It is a dirty word, bloody oath. I’ve always been coached mainly by Des Hasler, and if you think Des Hasler allows complacency then you’re kidding,” Cherry-Evans says.
Cherry-Evans was spotted at Sanctuary Cove working extensively with winger Xavier Coates, the towering 194-centimetre Melbourne Storm flyer who has been brought in to replace the injured Selwyn Cobbo.
