Prison bosses at HMP Wymott near Leyland are failing to ensure inmates are given the basic rights to safe care, inspectors have found

.

After last August's inspection the prison was issued with a warning notice and ordered to take steps to urgently address several areas including medicine management and staffing. Although the latest inspection noted some improvements the prison continues to be in breach of its legal obligations. The latest report states: "During this inspection we were not assured that staff were reporting all incidents or that lessons were being learnt.

"We found there were no substantive Band 5 primary care nurses with all 10 posts currently vacant. In this interim period the trust were using nurses from an agency and where possible regular agency nurses to help with consistency. The report also reveals that prisoners were waiting up to three years to access counselling and some had been waiting almost a year for vital vaccinations including some who were 27 weeks overdue for a Covid booster and others who had not received their hepatitis or MMR jab.
