Chris Shields joined Linfield from Dundalk back in 2021
When asked to assess his time at Linfield, Chris Shields immediately mentions the word 'pressure'. It is part and parcel of life at Windsor Park .The midfielder went down as a Lilywhites legend after spending nine-and-a-half-years years at Oriel Park, racking up 348 appearances. Only seven players have worn the shirt on more occasions.
"It is a different type of pressure. My time at Dundalk, we created our own success. We went from barely challenging to suddenly becoming top dogs, and everyone wanting to take a shot at you," he said. "For us, not winning the league the past two years, is tough. We won the League Cup which was nice, but it isn't what you target at the start of the season."
"The landscape is changing there. You have Duff at Shels doing well, the heavy investment at Derry City, and Rovers are sitting fourth with games in hand. That's exciting. Shields admits there is "extra hunger" within Linfield to prise the Gibson Cup out of Larne's hands this season.
