SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary The incredible final battle between Paul Atreides and Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part Two has massive implications for the future of the celebrated sci-fi franchise. While there are several differences from the book in Dune: Part Two, they notably don't work against Frank Herbert's source material and mostly enhance the pace and balance of the film.
Despite not knowing each other throughout Dune and Dune: Part Two, Paul discovers that the two of them are actually cousins, sharing the same grandfather in Vladamir Harkonnen. There is a brotherly familiarity and playfulness between them even as they fight to the death. It's evident as the two of them prepare to fight that Feyd senses a likeness between him and Paul and appears to instantly respect him for being essentially cut from the same cloth.
It also becomes, by nature of its combatants if not its true intent, a fight for Princess Irulan's hand in marriage. Feyd would have married her if he won, but Paul wins and decides to marry her as a prize. Paul sees this as a clear power play and as a way to advance and legitimize his sovereignty, since his heart still clearly belongs to Chani. The implication of being the husband of Princess Irulan would act as a foundational planting of Paul's impending rule as Emperor.
