A hospice chaplain and DeathCafe facilitator wants to remove the stigma surrounding death talk and has taken up a movement called the DeathCafe, which allows participants to dine and openly discuss all matters of mortality.
From impromptu conversations, I realized that those people who relied on euphemisms generally had a harder time dealing with death than those who accepted the reality of death outright. When death comes calling, whether it arrives as expected or takes one by surprise, the reality and finality of the event is often upsetting, stressful and heart-wrenching for family and friends.
