The Sixers’ current straits are little more than an extreme test case of the stars-or-bust philosophy in its purest form. De’Anthony Melton is another example. Who knows — if not for a back injury that derailed his season, Melton might have become the Sixers’ version of Josh Hart or Donte DiVincenzo, a young, value-laden acquisition who proved himself a critical thread in the fabric of the team.
