Northeast Arkansas News went to Joe Mack Campbell Park where hundreds of people descended from all over the country to watch the total solar eclipse.
Monday April 8 has been on many people's calendar for more than a year. Today Northeast Arkansas News got to speak to a few of the thousands of people who came to Jonesboro to see the total solar eclipse .
We were able to talk to different people who came from all over the country to be here, and their reactions to the eclipse were clearly genuine. Vincent Hong said, “That was something else, I’ve never seen anything like that in my life. It was beautiful”. “I think it was amazing how dark it got, it just felt like it was the middle of the day, and now it’s night, so it was really amazing," remarked Gary Venca. “It was more climactic than I expected, it got very dark”. “It was amazing, the moon came right over the sun and we couldn’t see the sun anymore, all we saw was this big black ring with lights spewing out the sides," said Faith and Coleman Bevill. Olivia Smith from Memphis said, “It was a really good experience. It was a weird feeling but it was good. When it was dark it was different than I expected”. “There’s such a difference between a partial eclipse and the full eclipse and the sun goes out, and the animals start getting freaked out, and the temperature drops, and it’s crazy," said Marla Mackoul of Jacksonville, Florida. Luckily, I was able to celebrate the total solar eclipse with hundreds of others here at Joe Mack Campbell Park.
