This article discusses the tendency of society to ignore uncomfortable truths and problems, highlighting various examples such as planned obsolescence, societal pressure related to having children, the impact of the pandemic, the lack of human euthanasia options and the realities of modern work schedules.

As a society, we sure do love sweeping things under the rug! Uncomfortable topics? Sweep 'em! Tricky feelings? Sweep 'em! Hard truths? Say it with me: SWEEP 'EM! But pretending like the bad things don't exist is a surefire way to make everything worse.

Just ask my therapist!with their responses, and I found myself going,"Damn, they're right, though," to about every single one of these. Here's what everyone had to say:"How every little thing is exploited to increase sales or profits these days, instead of trying to provide a durable or accessible product for everyday life. Planned obsolescence is going to be the death of the planet eventually. The use and throw-away concept is all that the generation of today knows, and subconsciously, the attitude is being incorporated into every facet of life.""Especially not people who don’t want kids. If someone says, 'I don’t want kids,' don’t say, 'You might one day!' Just say, 'You probably shouldn’t, because wanting them is the absolute bare minimum.'""Wow, you’re right. We jokingly call it the 'before times' because of how different life was before March 2020." "Euthanasia for people. We accept humane euthanasia as the best option for elderly and/or morbidly ill animals, but force elderly and/or morbidly ill humans into nursing homes, hospitals, hospice, etc., long after their quality of life deteriorates. I don’t think it’ll change, though, because all of those places I just mentioned make billions of dollars off of human suffering .""For most people, a 9-5 is really a 7-6. Work starts the moment you wake up. It’s not personal time when you’re getting ready for work. When you get home, that first hour might as well not even exist. It vanishes while you decompress. You put cooking dinner and going to the gym in the mix, and that’s pretty much your entire day. I actually have no idea how you guys do this with kids." "I firmly believe that in 50-100 years from now, people will look back on the way we treated livestock as completely barbaric. Many already feel this way, but I mean as a general consensus." "Driving infrastructure in general. A lot of people don’t even wanna think about the possibility of reducing our car-centric way of living.""I got my fingerprints taken last month. An old woman held each of my fingers against a digital scanner. It was the most prolonged physical contact I've had with another adult in years." "How businesses are collecting and selling every piece of information they can gather on you. Where you go, what you buy, what you look at online, what groceries you buy, where you shop, where you work, how you drive, what your politics are, your finances, your relatives — literally everything they can." "How many of us are barely holding it together. Like, we're all out here working, paying bills, smiling at coworkers, and secretly, we are one minor inconvenience away from a complete meltdown. But we just pretend.""The older I get, the more I understand why people freak out in public sometimes. It’s not the singular moment, it’s the straw that breaks the camel's back.""And then you get recorded and publicly shamed on the internet. The more I live, the more I feel like we’re living in some strange pseudo-world/purgatory that is actually designed to maximize human suffering." "How we're all wired to compete with each other from childhood, and we can't seem to break out of it. This is seen in our everyday life, be it at work, home, social circles, or even church! There is always a comparison drawn between your accomplishments or virtues and those of others. We are just never enough or considered worthy." "We should be redefining the family unit for found family. I would be so stoked to gather my best friends and move into a large house where half a dozen of us can live and just accept that we are a family unto ourselves." "Just because one person from a certain community/ background does something bad, it doesn’t mean we are all bad." "How people 'deserve' to not make a living wage, even though they're the people contributing to society and keeping things running day-to-day.""I dare anyone calling minimum wage jobs 'unskilled labor' to spend literally one shift working the grill at a McDonald's and see how fucking well they do." "How social media, algorithmically delivered content, and AI have been weaponized against us by the wealthy. Radical change is needed. The world's largest corporations need to be busted apart and their leaders jailed, but getting anyone to put down their dopamine pipe and talk about it is a tall order. We also have the ability to collectively starve this monster, but again, tall order.""We need to all give up social media. I know I’ve heard the arguments on how many jobs it will kill, and how many businesses would be hurt, but it has truly done more wrong than good to us as a society." "It doesn’t matter if you’re Left, Right, Center, whatever, the government does NOT care about you. Period. People NEED to realize that the government doesn’t have your best interests in mind, they have THEIR best interests in mind." "How every 'good' person has some 'bad' in them, and perhaps a more challenging reality to grasp, that every 'bad' person has some 'good.' We seem to have a really tough time stepping back and viewing people as whole, dynamic individuals." "We need to completely rethink our agricultural practices and work towards urban vertical farming asap. In the US, much of the agricultural land should be left alone to rewild and heal." "A lot of famous people , whose target demographic is young people, do a lot more harm than good with their platform. Either they don't understand the capabilities of their influence, or they do but would rather make money through shock value than have any sort of dignity with their words/actions." "How destructive and pointless gambling is. It's become perfectly normalized, but all it does is exploit poor people and ruin lives. Not even the winners get much out of it; they usually lose it all on more gambling or reckless spending. People often joke about how aliens would turn around if they saw us doing weird or freaky things, but I honestly think our proclivity for gambling is one of the strongest, most embarrassing indicators of primitivity."Are there any other things you can think of that we as a society don't seem ready to talk about?
