The Crown season 5 will release on November 9.
The Crown season 5 has now been given an official release date. The series, which dramatizes the life of the U.K.'s longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, originally premiered on Netflix in 2016 and has since run for four seasons. Every two seasons depicts a new period in the life of the Queen, beginning in her youth when she first rose to the throne, as played by Claire Foy, and continuing on into her adulthood, where she was played by two-time Oscar winner Olivia Colman.

That led to a production pause on the season out of respect for the monarch who has provided the series with its lead character. While the show resumed production after the pause, it wasn't clear if this delay would affect the release of The Crown season 5, which is already complete.
How The Crown is Moving Forward After Queen Elizabeth II's Death It is likely that many conversations were had internally at Netflix about whether to keep The Crown season 5 at its planned release date or move it further down the schedule to give space to the U.K.'s period of mourning. However, all but one of the previous four seasons have been released in November, and it is likely they wanted to keep this consistent as well, especially given the two-year wait between seasons 4 and 5.
It will be interesting to see how this season performs in the wake of the loss of the Queen. It is true that The Crown's viewership spiked in the wake of her death, but that may have been an immediate reaction to the news rather than a development of a habit that will continue several months later. However, her reappearance in the global news sphere will likely spur many people who were previously on the fence about diving into the series as a whole.
