The Critic trailer has dropped for Ian McKellen's forthcoming period drama movie, which hails from director Anand Tucker.
The Critic is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 13, 2024. Prior to this, the film had its world premiere last year at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
The film is directed by Anand Tucker from a screenplay written by Patrick Marber . Joining McKellen are Gemma Arterton , Mark Strong , Ben Barnes , Alfred Enoch , Romola Garai , and Lesley Manville . It is executive produced by Mark Gordon, Zygi Kamasa, Naomi George, Tom Butterfield and Harry White. Producers are Jolyon Symonds, Bill Kenwright and David Gilbery.
“London, 1934. Jimmy Erskine is the most feared theatre critic of the age,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “He lives as flamboyantly as he writes and takes pleasure in savagely taking down any actor who fails to meet his standards. When the owner of the Daily Chronicle newspaper dies, and his son David Brooke takes over, Jimmy quickly finds himself at odds with his new boss and his position under threat.
