The Creator now has an official trailer, offering a glimpse into the mysterious upcoming sci-fi project. The film, which is set to arrive in theaters on September 29, was helmed by Godzilla 2014 and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards. It stars John David Washington, who proved his chops as a sci-fi lead in Christopher Nolan's 2020 outing Tenet.

Its storyline seems to be taking its cues from the backstory of the Terminator franchise, in which the future that characters are trying to avoid involves the AI known as Skynet becoming self-aware and destroying most of humanity.
While artificial intelligence turning on the human race is far from a new idea in science fiction, it has become increasingly relevant to the modern era. AI models have become the center of debates in many industries, but most prominently at the moment in Hollywood writing, where the dispute over AI use is one of the factors at the center of the ongoing Writers Guild strike.
The Creator is going to become a big-budget centerpiece for an explosion of art that reflects these themes. The trend of killer AI has already begun in earnest in recent years, most prominently with the Blumhouse horror hit M3GAN this January. Peacock's Mrs. Davis also presents a more comic take on the premise, laying the groundwork for the more sober and intense film to come.
