Gyllenhaal is predictably convincing as the no-nonsense sergeant with a wife and two kids at home in L.A. that he wants to get back to but it's Salim who so effectively plays a man with a shadowy past and potentially bleak future who also has a family he wants to see again. Salim has been steadily building a career, at first in Denmark and then Hollywood, for the last two decades but"Guy Ritchie's The Covenant" may give his profile the boost it deserves.
