Wicked – first look teaser trailer (Universal Pictures)
After waiting for what feels like a lifetime for Wicked to be adapted for the screen, Broadway fans will have to wait even longer to see the movie-musical’s ending.The musical has been split into two parts, with Part One releasing in theaters on November 22 and Part Two set for release in 2025. Director Jon M. Chu explained his decision to make two Wicked films in an April 2022 announcement.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will be returning.Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande—who play the musical’s main characters, Elphaba and Glinda—will reprise their roles in Part Two. Other main cast members are also expected to return, including Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, and Marissa Bode.Part Two will likely cover Wicked’s second act.Stephen Schwartz, Wicked’s composer, previously gave his stamp of approval for breaking the musical down into two separate movies.
