Only nine percent of CEOs in the largest U.S. companies are women, a startlingly small figure. But what’s even more concerning is the leadership pipeline. Areveals that few women hold the C-suite roles that typically lead to the top spot, suggesting that the number of female CEOs may remain frustratingly low for the foreseeable future.
Women aren't faring much better in the other CEO feeder positions: CFO, and profit and loss leadership roles. Only 20% of CFOs are women, and women hold only 24% of P&L leadership roles. However, gender disparities at the executive level often mirror—and magnify—smaller biases throughout the organization. In other words, the absence of women at the top is not just an isolated issue; it reflects systemic challenges that affect opportunities, advancement, and representation for women at every stage of the corporate ladder.
