Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably familiar with the 1995 Disney animated masterpiece, The Lion King, which featured a young lion cub named Simba who embarks on a life-changing journey after the death of his father, Mufasa. Led to believe he was the cause of his father’s death by his conniving Uncle Scar, Simba is wracked with guilt and flees from his homeland to start a new life, forgoing his role as the rightful heir to the Pride Lands.
The younger version of Mufasa is voiced by Braelyn Rankins, who is known for his performances in Take Note, 8-Bit Christmas, and Doom Patrol. Young Rafiki will be voiced by Kagiso Lediga , who also starred in Catching Feelings and The Umbrella Men. Tiffany Boone Sarabi Close Sarabi is a young lioness who meets Mufasa and Taka after the brothers set out to establish their own pride and territory. Sarabi is searching for a pride of her own with her trusted scout, a hornbill named Zazu. She eventually becomes Simba’s mother in the original animated movie and the subsequent live-action remake. Mufasa: The Lion King will shed a lot of light on her character and personality before she becomes Queen of the Pride Lands.
Blue Ivy Carter Kiara Kiara is the daughter of Simba and Nala. In 1998, an animated sequel to The Lion King came out and explored Kiara’s character as the princess of Pride Rock, watched over by Simba’s trusted pals, Timon and Pumbaa. In Mufasa: The Lion King, Kiara, Timon, and Pumbaa gather around to hear the story about Kiara’s late grandfather, Mufasa, as told by Rafiki, the mandrill. Kiara is voiced by Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
Lennie James Obasi Close Obasi is Taka’s father and Mufasa’s adoptive father. Initially adverse to the idea of accepting an “outsider” into his pride, Mufasa and Taka still grow up together, getting into varying amounts of trouble along the way. Obasi is voiced by Lennie James, who is best known for his role as Morgan Jones in the AMC series The Walking Dead. Similar to his castmate, Thandiwe Newton, he also appeared in a Guy Ritchie film, Snatch, as Sol.
