BYD’s very confident about the Atto 3’s reliability
It could be said that warranties are a reflection of an automaker’s confidence in its vehicle. For those old enough to remember, we were lucky to even get a year’s worth of it back in the day.
Lately, we’ve been seeing car companies going well beyond five years. In the US, some are even willing to go ten years for that. But over in China, BYD has perhaps come up with the boldest and most daring warranty scheme to date. This is not the new Subaru WRX STI you were hoping forIn its home market, the BYD Atto 3, known as the Yuan Plus there, was recently given a bit of an update. But what caught our attention was the lifetime warranty for its powertrain. Yes, you read that right. Lifetime.
Of course, we’re certain that there are loads of terms and conditions that apply there, but the fact that BYD even mentioned it is a bold move. That said, it’s worth pointing out that the warranty is non-transferrable and will only remain with the first owner. Still, the company is willing to cover any faults during its time with the first owner for as long as it involves the motor, battery, and inverter.
Speaking of local, the Philippine-spec Atto 3 comes in two variants. These are the Standard Range and the Extended Range, and the names are self explanatory. The prior has a range of up to 410km, while the latter can go further at 480km. Both use a single motor that’s good for 201hp and 310Nm of torque. As for prices, it ranges from P1,598,000 to P1,798,000.
