Australia's Pilbara region has been heating up, with temperatures soaring past 43C this week. The hot air is now starting to travel to the south-east, bringing along with it a heightened risk of fires.
Large parts of Australia are set for an early taste of summer starting this weekend, along with elevated fire danger , as a tongue of heat spreads across the country.
Senior forecaster Dean Narramore several places could be looking at temperatures between 6 and 14 degrees Celsius above average for this time of year. The areas facing the hottest temperatures include WA's Pilbara, central Australia, northern South Australia, and south-west Queensland where temperatures are forecast to hit over 40C during the coming days.
"It will then cool down for a bit and then the next front will bring that heat back down again mid next week," Mr Narramore said.Will reach the high 20s over the weekend, with a second burst of heat mid next week which could see temperatures near 30C.Will briefly reach 30C on Sunday, before easing back to the mid to high 20s, however, the western suburbs are forecast to reach as high as the mid 30s on Sunday and remain warm into Monday.
