Mayor Deegan, city officials celebrate opening of Stockton Street Bridge as part of McCoys Creek restorationMan arrested after attacking family of tourists near Lightner Museum in St. Augustine, police sayThe Block JaxThe venue, located just off Gate Parkway, features live music and a 30-foot screen that officials say will be a draw for fans watching the NCAA tournament, Jumbo Shrimp opening day and other events. Opening-day crowds filled the lot, and some visitors parked on grass, medians and sidewalks or used neighboring businesses’ parking lots, prompting several vehicles to be towed. One Facebook commenter wrote, “I drove past and the line was down the block!!! Had to find food somewhere else. Excited to try it though.” Another said, “Still had a great time today regardless of the parking.” The Block Jax posted a notice on social media saying parking inside its lot is free and warning that cars parked at surrounding businesses risk being towed. The post said the venue is “actively looking into solutions to increase parking and transportation into The Block” and urged visitors to consider ride-hailing services. The owner said the venue’s lot holds 125 parking spaces and said patrons may use the Community First lot next door during certain hours: after 5 p.m. on weekdays, after 3 p.m. on Fridays, and all day Saturday and Sunday. Organizers expect heavy traffic during the NCAA Sweet 16 games and the start of minor league baseball season, and officials are seeking ways to manage parking as demand grows. In the meantime, patrons are being encouraged to park only in authorized areas or use alternate transportation to avoid towing.Chris Will has joined the News4JAX team as a weekend morning reporter, after graduating from the University of Florida in spring 2024.
