Parents still have concerns, despite a £26k makeover

Parents are concerned a local playground in Blackburn is 'not fit for purpose' - even after a £26k revamp.

"Anyone would think, you buy a new play area for your back garden it would cost £500, but we can't do that. We have to get really really sturdy stuff, so the costs are higher. If you've got £26,000 for a new playground, you would expect the bees knees wouldn't you? But by the time you've got the new flooring, probably most of your money has gone."

Martin moved onto Livesey Branch Road/Kingsley Close 14 years ago and says the park was a lot better back then. He said: "When they first built it, I used to take my kids there but it's gone into disrepair. "My daughter has played football down there though and you can tell people don't use it like they used to and I guess, money is tight isn't it? It's a difficult thing to spend money on.

Jane continued: "Everyone but the bar staff and the groundmen, everyone that runs this is a volunteer. We have some very dedicated people, who spend a lot of time down here and perhaps that's not as appreciated as much as it should be within the community. "I don't imagine there's any issues, not in terms of the park, the park is fine. There's some people who go down, who are a bit older in their cars and stuff, hanging around and you can't do anything about that really.

"No, there's not enough [choice]. The tennis is good, we use the tennis courts and we use the football pitch because we're quite sporty."
