Get your hands on street food, watch your culinary heroes in action - and toast the season of the food festival in Yorkshire.....
It doesn’t get any better than a seafood feast by the sea, so Whitby’s Fish & Ships Festival is gathering some kitchen greats to whet your appetite.
In the Fish Craft Marquee, learn about fishing skills such as pot making, net mending, crab and lobster dressing, and see master filleter Andrew Hodgson demonstrate his skills. Lobster lovers will be able to take a guided tour of Whitby’s new lobster hatchery.Roundhay Park is the place to get stuck into choice street food, sample the best of indie drinks and make merry with live music and entertainment for all ages. Browse artisan stalls, watch cookery demos and lounge on a classy deckchair.
There’s pretty glam lineup too – with the superstars of the food world headlining – namely James Martin, The Hairy Bikers, with Dave Myers making a return to the cooking stage after his cancer diagnosis - and Gino D’Acampo. The festival won Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards Tourism event of the Year 2019 and was shortlisted as the Best Non Music Festival at the prestigious UK Festival Awards the same year.
Rachael Higgins is the festival founder: ‘The festival is quite simply part of my family, we love it,’ she says. Kids can build sandcastles in the giant sandpit, ride on farmer John’s mini tractors, become a budding chef in the kid’s cookery school, meet some furry friends at the petting farm, dress up for the princess party, cut, stick and colour in the crafting tent, get messy in the mud kitchen and dance like no one’s watching at the kids disco.
