The summer of 1969 was a time of tumult for the whole country. Normally, the Levin siblings would be spending the season at their grandmother’s house in Nantucket, but this July finds them all in different locations — one caught up in civil-rights protests, another pregnant in Boston and another sibling recently deployed to Vietnam. A time of tumult and change, seen through the lens of one family.
Ayaz Virji left a plum medical gig on the East Coast to move to rural Minnesota, feeling called to serve the shortage of doctors in rural America. Three years later, after the 2016 election, he and his family were met with anti-Muslim sentiment from people they had known and liked. Just as he was about to move, a local pastor invited him to give a talk about what Muslims practice and believe, spawning a lecture series that changed hearts and minds.
