Towns and villages in Wales, Lancashire, and Northumberland have ranked on both sides of the list
An annual list of the best and the worst seaside towns and villages in the country have been released by Which?.
Further down the list, in 29th place, was Lytham St Annes in Lancashire. Located on the Fylde coast, south of Blackpool, the seaside town is home to more than 42,000 people and located near to Blackpool Airport. The seaside town hosts the popular Lytham Festival each year, which was headlined by the likes of Courteeners and Shania Twain this year.
In defence of Bangor in Gwynedd, Which? Travel editor Rory Boland, who also graduated at Prifysgol Bangor university, said: “No one would dispute that Bangor has hit hard times of late, particularly with so many shops closing along its pedestrianised high street. “There is no real beach and Bangor won't ever compete with more dedicated seaside resorts, but it does sit amidst some of the most spectacular landscapes in Wales. The university means there are plenty of cultural events for a city of 16,000, and accommodation is affordable.”
