TheBatman concept art gives a better look at one of Riddler's deadliest jokes - the bomb collar strapped to Gil Colson's neck.
Concept art from The Batman gives fans a close-up look at the bomb collar Paul Dano’s Riddler used to terrorize Gotham’s District Attorney Gil Colson. Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman saw Robert Pattinson assume the cowl in a decidedly darker and more grounded approach to the franchise than had ever been seen before.
Joining Pattinson in the new film, which Reeves had set in a separate universe from the ongoing narrative of the DC Extended Universe, is Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, and Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/the Riddler. As far from previous big-screen versions of the character as one could possibly get, Dano’s Riddler was conceived as a sadistic serial killer who had begun targeting Gotham’s corrupt political elite.
The crude nature of the device is in keeping with Dano’s Riddler, who even took it upon himself to wrap his head in plastic cling film in order to prevent any possible DNA evidence from being left behind at his crime scenes. As Dano himself once stated, his version of the Riddler “doesn’t quite have the resources, maybe, to be like a really fancy vigilante,” and all of his contraptions would have needed to be constructed with materials he would have ready access to.
In addition to many of its other departures from earlier movie versions of Batman, Dano’s Riddler was not killed off at the conclusion of the film and was instead incarcerated in Arkham Asylum. With a sequel now officially underway, it may even be possible that he will reappear to continue to threaten the citizenry of Gotham with more of his nefarious plans.
