The Batman 2 has received a disappointing script update from James Gunn. The DC movie was initially scheduled for a 2025 release. However, due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes that delayed several movies and series across Hollywood, as well as director Matt Reeves not finishing the film's script as soon as expected, The Batman 2 has suffered a few setbacks.
The sequel to Robert Pattinson's Batman debut will now arrive in theaters on October 1, 2027. After a recent report claimed the movie's script would be finished soon, James Gunn threw cold water on it. On Threads, James Gunn revealed that The Batman 2 script was never expected to arrive by Memorial Day, as had been rumored. Reeves is taking his time crafting the DC sequel, which has led to multiple delays and even actors like franchise star Robert Pattinson poking fun at how long it is taking for The Batman 2 to get off the ground. Recently, it had been rumored that Reeves would finally turn in a full draft of the script by Memorial Day — he has delivered chunks of the upcoming DC movie to DC Studios co-CEOs Gunn and Peter Safran — but Gunn disproved that, saying,"Haven't heard that one but it's also not true. No one ever expected it by then."
