Alamo curators are seeking photos, posters, toys, comics and other treasures to display when a new visitor center opens in 2027.
Your rusty old Alamo-themed lunch box, toy soldiers, movie posters, photos and other keepsakes could be part of the last exhibit visitors walk through before exiting the new museum set to open at the Texas battle site in 2027. The 160,000-square-foot Alamo Visitor Center and Museum will include a paid experience of 300 years of history packed into eight galleries, from Native Americans to San Antonio ’s first permanent Spanish mission of the 1700s to the site’s modern era in a bustling downtown.
Quick guide to Alamo history, pop culture and how to plan a visit “We can get the personal connection when we get a donation from a member of the public,” said Nathan Jones, the Alamo’s director of curation. “We can talk about why it means something to them. When you’re buying it off eBay, you get the stuff, but you don’t get the story.” “We would love to know why these things are important to people, and what it means to them,” added Tyler Taylor, vice president of collections.
Latest Alamo tour features Asleep at the Wheel frontman Ray Benson The Alamo is giving everyone until Oct. 24 — the 64th anniversary of the John Wayne movie’s world premiere — to rummage through their display shelves, closets and storage units and offer up items.
