thousands of third graders who didn’t meet state reading benchmarks, placing unprecedented demands on limited resources for reading intervention.
Little is more important to the future of the upper half of Ohio than Lake Erie, and reporter Sabrina Eaton analyzed what might be ahead for the Great Lakes in the incoming Donald Trump administration. Should we be worried? The Cavs continue/finally ended an incredible unbeaten streak over the weekend, and reporter Ethan Sands wrote about why this run has been so magnificent. What are the highlights?
And it’s putting a massive strain on schools because in addition to putting that decision in the hands of parents, also from new legislative changes, districts are also now required to offer specialized reading help, not just through third grade, but for as long as a student needs it. That could be all the way through high school, technically. And with so many kids advancing without strong reading skills, classrooms are just overwhelmed and the resources are being stretched thin.
You’re no longer learning to read, you’re reading to learn and you just fall further and further behind. And teachers are caught in the middle. They’re trying to support these kids with limited funding and resources. So, yeah.It was interesting that some of the high quality districts in the county were the ones that were holding kids back because those are the ones that have the most success. They recognize it. But let’s go back in history. Right.
There are some other candidates in the mix like Ron Ferguson, the Republican of Jefferson County. He’s a vocal Stevens opponent and there are other potential names, but they certainly haven’t come up yet. So most of them are saying, so traditionally whoever wins the majority caucus leadership vote becomes the presumptive speaker of the house. But we saw that all upended last year when there was a fight between Derek Marin who won the caucus vote. He’s from Cincinnati, whatever.
funding is at $368 million. So I can’t see them ending this. Now, I think there are other questions about climate change and EPA and what happens with all of the rules. But when it comes to the Great Lakes specifically, I’m not overly worried about this program. The idea that this could be imperiled, I think, is heightened by the fact that you have Elon Musk saying he wants to cut the federal budget by the third, which is $2 trillion.
So currently that 10 % revenue tax goes to three different areas. 36 % goes to a social equity and jobs fund to help people enter the industry from communities that were impacted negatively by the war on drugs. Another 36 % goes to a host community cannabis fund. And that goes to cities that do have adult use dispensaries within their borders.
know, with their strong start and the right mindset, this team could be one to watch deep into the playoffs.Yeah, I next up is Boston, which will be a test. But what’s cool about this is that it’s a team. It’s not a single superstar or two. They didn’t assemble this by going out and buying the best in the, in the game. They got a bunch of guys that play really well together and a coach that saw ways to make them explosive. it’s just amazing that they’ve started out on a 15 and a run.
