Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year, meaning the weekend leading up to the holiday will be packed with costume parties, bar crawls and kid-friendly activities. But Halloween is much more than one night, or even one weekend — these days, you get12 days of celebrations, if not more, and our calendar is already packed with film screenings, costume parties, canine costume parades, pumpkin painting and author talks.
Friday and Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. $35; all guests age 2 and older must have a ticket. $30 parking passesHoward University’s homecoming is a chance for alumni to return to and reunite at a place they refer to as “the Mecca,” but the week of events, especially the traditional Yardfest concerts, transcends students and alumni: Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Drake and Ye have all made appearances on the stage in Howard’s Upper Quadrangle.

Look, we know you can watch all eight Harry Potter movies on your TV with little to no effort, but there’s something magical about watching the films, especially the early ones, in a theater full of fans wearing Gryffindor scarves and black robes, cheering for Harry and against Severus Snape.
