. There used to be about 130 features. In 2021’s virtual format, they trimmed that to around 75. This year, they split the difference with about 90 features. That choice was also, in part, related to ongoing, though lessened, concerns about the risks of spreading COVID-19.
It’s in those documentary categories where audiences will especially see a lot of Texas. A couple of films feature prominent Texans, including “Finding Nolan” about Nolan Ryan and “The Return of Tanya Tucker.”“It’s from the perspective of a 10-and-a-half-year-old and kind of during the moon landing. And it's very specific in time, and it's very Texas, and it's kind of a beautiful kind of memory immersion film,” Pierson said.
