A recent Bankrate study ranks 50 metro areas on affordability, wellness, job market, market tightness and safety scores to see which are best for homeowners.
looms, there is a lot for first-time home buyers to consider. The sheer amount of information to take into account when making such a large decision can be overwhelming.
But a recent Bankrate study could help make the process easier — at least when it comes to deciding where to live.study looks at 50 metro areas, scoring each on affordability, wellness, job market, market tightness and safety. The scores were then combined to create a final ranking, with affordability counting for 30%, wellness and culture counting for 10%, and housing market tightness, safety and employment factors each counting for 20%.
Affordability was primarily calculated by comparing the income required to qualify for a mortgage in an area with the median home price there as of the beginning of 2022. The job market score used unemployment rates from the U.S. Labor Department as well as average commute times. Housing market tightness reflects housing inventory and the average amount of time a house spent on the market, according to Realtor.com.
