A Maine teen says one of the heroes of the mass shootings in Lewiston was her friend and an inspiration.
Madison Sanborn was cornhole partners with Joe Walker, the manager of Schemengees Bar and Grille.Everyone knew I loved cornhole and played at Schemengees, and so I had three people text me being like, ‘Where are you? Are you home? Are you safe?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah why, what’s up?’ They’re like, ‘There was a shooting at Schemengees,’" Sanborn said.
Walker’s dad said his son attacked the shooter with a knife, losing his life while trying to save others.Sanborn met Walker last year when he taught her to play cornhole. She said Walker took her under her wing, and they became partners, winning several tournaments together. That moment I ended up crying,” Sanborn said. “Not because I lost, because how grateful I was for Joe, and that he was there for me in that moment.”
