Bernie Sanders outlined his detailed K-12 education plan, which prominently features a $60,000 minimum salary for American teachers. Many of his points were taken from an American public school teacher, as should all K-12 education policy.
As a teacher who believes that the United States public education system is the cornerstone of American democracy and economic mobility, frustration doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel that presidential candidates have said nearly nothing about K-12 education since I stepped foot in my first classroom in the fall of 2008.
But on Friday, something big changed. A top-tier presidential candidate listened to a public school teacher and released a policy based on that teacher’s ideas.I have been writing about K-12 education topics for Forbes since the first few weeks of the Trump presidency and left the classroom in the spring of 2017 to run for United States Senate in Maine.
