Thabo Bester arrested in Tanzania, says South African government ThaboBester ThaboBesterArrested
CAPE TOWN - Government confirmed the arrest of fugitive Thabo Bester and Dr Nandipha Magudumana during a press conference on Saturday.
"The Minister of Police and the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services can confirm that escapee, Mr Thabo Bester....with his accomplice, also known as Dr Nandipha Magudumana, along with a Mozambican national, have been arrested in Tanzania late last night," Justice Minister Ronald Lamola said.
Lamola said he had had a telephone conversation with his justice counterpart in Tanzania in which the latter "confirmed to us their cooperation and willingness to help to bring them to South Africa as speedily as possible". Bester is a wanted fugitive following his elaborate escape from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein in May 2022.
Police recently raided a mansion in the plush suburb of Hyde Park in Johannesburg, where Bester and Magudumana had been hiding out.Ronald Lamola, Justice Minister, says a high level police delegation will be going to Tanzania to extradite Thabo Bester.' EWN Reporter April 8, 2023
