The modern history of New York City is marred by the rise of gentrification, a process by which poor neighborhoods were refreshed by an influx of wealthy residents, pushing the working-class residents into different neighborhoods and, ultimately, out of the city altogether. The story of those New Yorkers who were betrayed by their city is chronicled in A Thousand and One, written and directed by A.V. Rockwell in her feature film debut.
