The hour-long televised debate is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will air on KHOU in Houston and KENS5 in San Antonio.
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and U.S. Rep. Colin Allred will meet for the first debate of the closely contested Senate race on Oct. 15, the two campaigns announced Friday. The debate comes as multiple polls have shown a very tight race between the two-term Texas Republican and the Dallas Democrat challenging him. A Morning Consult poll released this week found Allred had a 45-44 lead over Cruz.
It was the first survey to show the civil rights attorney and former NFL player leading in the race, though the results were within the margin of error. Morning Consult found Allred trailing by 5 percentage points in polling before the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
