FEMA approved four Texas counties for residents to receive aid after the May 25 storms, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Tuesday.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved a request from the state to add Collin, Cooke, Denton and Montague counties to the agency’s Individual Assistance program, Gov. Greg Abbott announced in a news release Tuesday morning.The FEMA program helps eligible residents with disaster-related expenses, including temporary housing, emergency home repairs, personal property losses, disaster legal services, and disaster unemployment assistance and medical, dental and funeral costs.

While briefing the Cooke Couty commissioner court in a public meeting Tuesday morning, Ray Fletcher, the county’s emergency management coordinator, said the ages of the dead range from 2 to 72 years old.Abbott said during a Sunday news conference in Valley View that the storms damaged more than 300 buildings.

National Weather Service officials have said a preliminary analysis rated the tornado an EF-3, with winds reaching between 136 and 165 mph. The weather service initially rated the tornado as an EF-2, with winds reaching between 111 and 135 mph.Fletcher said residents with impacted property should also report the damage via the state’s Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool atChase Rogers
