Damon Sayles walked away with nearly $70,000 in a recent appearance on the long-running game show.
Damon Sayles grew up watching “Wheel of Fortune” with his late aunt, and he had the opportunity to honor her memory by competing on the game show. Sayles, a 2001 graduate of Texas State University who now is senior editor for culture at The Athletic , solved all the puzzles in the triple tossup and made it to the bonus round, which he also won. He walked away with $69,290 in the Nov. 20 broadcast.
More game show glory: San Antonian leaves 'The Floor' $40,000 richer In a Facebook post a few days before the show aired, he wrote about his late aunt and how the two of them had liked to work out the puzzles while watching “‘Wheel of Fortune’ when he was a kid. “That Monday after the funeral, I solved puzzle after puzzle while sitting on my couch watching the show,” he wrote. “I told Jennifer Sayles, 'God, I miss Bev.' It hurt then; it still hurts now.
