On Monday, August 26, Texas State University in San Marcos begins its 2024 Fall Semester welcoming approximately 8,300 freshmen students, its biggest freshman c

lass ever. Many of the new freshmen arriving on campus are also the first in their family to go to college.

Texas State President Kelly Damphousse says their time at Texas State is going to be huge for the students and their family for generations to come. He explains, “If you have a college degree, your kids are way more likely to get a college degree as well. And for so many of our students who are coming in without that having been part of their family's legacy, trying to build that new legacy for them, we can change their lives and the lives of their families forever.”This year marks 125 years of Texas State University offering higher education to Texans.

He adds, “So many of our students come there and they think, ‘I don't belong here. I'm not college material.’ Some think ‘I don't know how I got here.’ And I want them to know that they got into Texas State and our goal is not just have the biggest freshman class this year, like we're having, but have the biggest graduating class in four years. That's ultimately what we're here for.

Damphousse says Texas State has become the 25th largest undergrad university in the country and is now growing its masters and PhD programs.
