Fisher, a longtime Coppell school board member, was a lifelong Republican turned off by culture war rhetoric. Brooks, who mostly homeschooled her daughters, leaned into a platform that decried critical race theory and comprehensive sex education.Another notable race is the Houston-area’s District 7, where Republican Julie Pickren appeared well-positioned. She is a former trustee who was in Washington during the Jan. 6 insurrection.
