An involuntary separation includes his resignation “following a suggestion, whether formal or informal, by a majority of the City Council that he resign,” the contract states. At least eight of the council’s 15 members could have voted to fire Broadnax, according to the terms of his contract. That tally is lower than what is. If the council had fired Broadnax, it also would have triggered a clause in his contract requiring Broadnax receive a lump sum payment equal to 12 months of his salary.
