to allow those already receiving puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones to continue on that treatment. The amendment passed without opposition and was also supported by the House author, Dr. Tom Oliverson of Cypress, who said suddenly forcing current patients off medications could be harmful.
He says he will continue to work on an amendment to the legislation that will allow current patients to taper off their medications as well as allay fears that the bill would allow them to escalate their treatment from, for example, puberty blockers to cross-sex hormones. Oliverson said he spoke with Campbell and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who leads the Senate as president before the amendment was offered and believed both were in agreement on the policy behind it. He said whether or not legislators and stakeholders can come to an agreement on these concerns will determine whether the bill becomes law.issue that has to be addressed on this bill,” he said.Gov.
