Governor Greg Abbott has made school vouchers a priority, prompting concerns from school officials in San Antonio. Judson ISD Board Members met to discuss the potential impacts of vouchers on the district, including funding instability and the need for accountability in private and home schooling.
SAN ANTONIO - A universal voucher program currently on the table as Governor Greg Abbott named school vouchers a priority.School officials are concerned and are asking for more accountability, funding, and support.
“We love our state, it means something to be a Texan. No other state provides the opportunities, Texas offers,” Abbott said during his State of the State address."Every child deserves education that’s best for them. It is time to expand that same opportunity to every family in the great state of Texas," he added.
He says if they have teacher contracts based on enrollment today, and lose students, they may have to lay off teachers in the future, due to instability in school finance.
