Tomorrow the Texas State Board of Education will hear public testimony for the last time on a controversial state-developed curriculum which would have teachers

teach public elementary school students lessons infused with Bible stories.

The Texas Education Agency proposed the curriculum which would be taught to students grades kindergarten through 5th grade. Hawes’ Texas Freedom to Read Project aims to preserve the rights of Texans and their freedom to access information and ideas. This includes public school students. Patrick Firme attended the book festival. He says he believes students shouldn’t only be taught the Bible and agrees with Hawes that this presents children with a narrow world view.
