Texas House Democratic Rep. Joe Moody has been removed from his position as speaker pro tempore

. “Nothing political has even cracked the top three, so nothing has changed about who I am or what my values are.”Fifty-seven Texas House Democrats left the state on Monday, breaking quorum, to stop a voting bill that would cut back early voting hours, ban drive-through voting and tighten voting-by-mail rules from passing. The bill passed the senate floor on Tuesday, but will be unable to move forward in the chamber as long as there are not enough members in the house for quorum.
House Speaker Phelan did not comment on the order to remove Moody from the position, but did release a Thursday demanding House Democrats that left the state “return their legislative per diem” and come back to pass legislation that would provide an additional assistance to retired teachers.
